Brett Harvey is an international award-winning director & writer hailing from Vancouver Canada. His feature documentary directorial debut began with the world-renowned THE UNION: THE BUSINESS BEHIND GETTING HIGH, a film that would go on to win the National Film Board sponsored award for BEST CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY at the Edmonton International Film Festival. This was one of many BEST DOCUMENTARY awards the film would go on to win, as it was selected to 33 international film festivals across North America & gained world-wide distribution with Netflix. In 2012, the film was invited to Parliament Hill to educate MP’s & Senators on the ramifications of the national drug war.
Next, Brett directed & wrote the feature documentary, THE CULTURE HIGH, a film which Newsweek declared: “Shows the insanity of the drug war”. The film would also find world-wide distribution in over 70 countries, while winning ‘BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE’ at the 2015 Ampia Awards. From there, Brett went on to direct & write the highly acclaimed feature documentary ICE GUARDIANS. Ice Guardians was picked by NEWSWEEK to be in its "FAVORITE DOCUMENTARIES OF 2016" & SPORTS ILLUSTRATED’S “BEST OF FILM” in 2016. The film was nominated for four ‘Rosie Awards’ in 2017 and two ‘Leo Awards’, including ‘BEST FEATURE DOCUMENTARY’ & ‘BEST DIRECTOR’. Harvey’s latest documentary, INMATE #1: THE RISE OF DANNY TREJO, won the ‘AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD’ for ‘BEST CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY’ & ‘BEST OVERALL FILM’ at the Calgary International Film Festival, while picking up 5 Leo Awards (including BEST FEATURE DOCUMENTARY & BEST DIRECTEOR). The film went on to sign a major studio deal with UNIVERSAL PICTURES and was featured in ROLLING STONE. Brett's follow up film, BREAKING OLYMPIA: THE PHIL HEATH STORY (A co-production with Dwyane 'The Rock' Johnson) ,is currently nominated for 5 Leo Awards, including BEST FEATURE DOCUMENTARY & BEST DIRECTOR, 4 Rosie Awards, and 'Best Documentary at the NATIONAL FILM AWARDS in the UK. The film had its current release with Universal Pictures. At present, Brett is directing & writing the highly anticipated feature documentary on world famous comedian Dane Cook and his journey of having to put his only brother in prison.
